No creepy stuff. No mystery box.
Most of your reader state stays in your own browser. I measure enough to keep the site useful, not enough to build a dossier on you.
Your saves stay local
Saves, lab history, and reading state live in this browser.
No selling data
No data brokers. No ad network resale. No partner list.
You can export
Your local profile can be downloaded from the saved page.
Mostly local. Measured lightly.
Where your reading lives, what may be counted, and what never happens.Mostly local
Your reading shelf lives on your device.
Saved items, lab takes, tier history, topic counts, and the local visit log are stored in browser storage under hdd:reader-profile.
Measured lightly
Analytics are for usefulness, not surveillance.
The site may record page views, clicks, and performance signals through Vercel Analytics and configured tools like Google Analytics or Microsoft Clarity.
No dark patterns
No tracking tricks dressed up as features.
No cross-site tracking pixels, no fake social counters, no forced email popup, and no AI summary button sending your reading to a model.
Privacy should be understandable before it is enforceable.
A privacy page should not require a lawyer to translate it. If I need data, I should be able to explain why. If I do not need it, I should not collect it.
Local by default
Personal reading state starts in your browser, not on my server.
Permission before contact
Email is collected only when you choose to subscribe or reach out.
Open license
Most written work is CC-BY 4.0 so useful ideas can travel.
The same promise, spelled out.
Every line a normal reader can check without a lawyer. What stays on your device
Saves, lab takes, tier history, topic counts, and your local visit log live in your browser under hdd:reader-profile. You can export or clear that profile from /saves.
Lab free-text answers and saved content IDs are not sent to analytics. They are local reader state unless you explicitly send them somewhere yourself.
What may be measured
HeyDataDude uses Vercel Analytics. If configured in the environment, the site may also load Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, or PostHog-style event capture.
- Page views and route visits.
- Clicks on public UI like save, share, search, and navigation.
- Performance or crash information needed to keep the site working.
Analytics are for product judgment: what readers use, what pages break, and what should be clearer. They are not for selling you to advertisers.
Email and contact
If you subscribe, your email is used to send the newsletter or site updates. If you email me, I use your address to reply. Email addresses are not sold or shared as a list.
When you tell me what you're confused about
The home page asks "what are you confused about?" If you pick one of the options, I record which one (and your optional field/role) so I can see which confusions resonate. If you type a confusion I don't cover yet, that text is stored on the server so I know what to write next.
Your email is stored onlyif you tick the box asking to be notified when I cover it — and then it's used for that one note, nothing else. This roadmap data is private (never shown publicly or sent to ad trackers), kept for about 180 days, and removed sooner on request — just contact me.
What I do not do
- No cross-site ad tracking pixels.
- No selling, renting, or sharing email lists.
- No fake like counters or fake social proof.
- No forced email wall before you can read.
- No AI summarize button that sends your reading to a third-party model.
- No silent rewrite if this policy materially changes.
